Petition:
https://my.uplift.ie/petitions/representation-matters-ireland

I put this video together to show just how lacking representation people of colour are in this country.
I honestly cried while putting this video together because it was so clear and so sad to see that only one type of skin colour is considered good enough to sell Irish magazines. And one type of body size. Out of these hundreds of magazine covers you can literally count on one hand how many women of colour there was 😞 This is one of the reasons I stopped buying magazines, they made me feel I was not good enough or pretty enough for society and I know many women of all shapes, sizes and colours feel the same.
This has to change, for our kids sake and young girls seeing this. Imagine growing up thinking your skin colour or body type is not good enough to be on the front of magazines? It’s so damaging. A model agent I was talking to said so many young women don’t follow their dream of modelling because they don’t see people like them on covers.
Wouldn’t it be nice if al kids grow up know all shapes abilities and skin colours are beautiful and worthy to be represented, seen and heard?

Please join myself (@glitter_mama_) Emma Murphy Fitness & NotAnother Agency by signing the petition to get Irish media to make a more conscious effort to include more diversity. It can be done.
Ways you can help
1️⃣Sign the petition at https://my.uplift.ie/petitions/representation-matters-ireland

2️⃣ Use #representationmattersireland to bring this issue to the attention of media you feel could do a better job at inclusion.
3️⃣ share, tag your friends, influencers, bloggers, media anyone who can help and make a difference to how out media represents Ireland ❤️

Frances Fitzgerald

I dropped by the "Women in Politics & Public Life 1918-2018" exhibition in Dublin Castle over the weekend.

This exhibition shines a spotlight on the stories of very familiar and lesser-known women, who have contributed significantly to Irish political and public life over the past century – on the challenges they faced and the obstacles they overcame.
I even found my own seat (the 13th woman Minister in the history of the State) at an original cabinet table - and was joined by number 11, Mary Hanafin, by chance!

100 years to the day since the sitting of the very first Dáil, I'm very grateful to have served as Tánaiste; Minister for Children & Youth Affairs; Minister for Justice & Equality; and Minster for Business, Enterprise & Innovation. I know that these personal achievements would not have been possible without the ground-breaking work of the thousands of women-activists and champions throughout the last few centuries.

Congratulations to Minister Josepha Madigan and the Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht for supporting this fascinating project - under the guidance of Sinéad McCoole.

If we are to continue the message of #Votail100 and showcase the hard work and ruthless determination of women in Ireland, then we must ensure that this exhibition finds a permanent home. This should not just be a temporary collection of stories...it should remain a project of inspiration for the next generation of women leaders - no matter what their field of interest is.
